I am pretty sure it was Icarus who flew too high, too close
to the sun that his man-made wings melted and he crashed back earthward. So too, Bob Potrzuski…
Every day I woke up feeling a little better. I would go to PT, work on my own 15-30
minutes two or three times a day, sleep a little better: Wake up feeling a
little better, a smooth, beautiful upward arch was what this was going to
be. I would be walking the shores of
Beaver Lake sooner rather than later.
Until today that is: Post-PT was closer to three days after
surgery than three-plus weeks. The pain
in my left knee was excruciating. Its mobility was very limited. I could barely get into the Subaru… in fact,
Carol had to lift my foot into the car.
This did not ease the pain.
What the heck happened?
I have been avoiding ‘numbers’. I
would work as hard as I could and the PTs would tell me what needed to be
done. Apparently it was a measurement
day and both joints were moved way farther than they had been before. The PT flexes the joint as far as I will let
them and then they hold. I may have
allowed a little more… and the numbers were great. But will it be worth it tonight and tomorrow?
I have to assume that anyone who is contemplating knee
replacement has deformity and weakness.
Today we addressed muscles that had not been stretched in decades. And remember, pretty much every muscle has
some connection with another…
I can hope that tomorrow will feel good and I will continue
to cycle higher or I can look to a few days of resetting and getting back on
track. In any case, I ain’t skiing yet
and in fact should not even be riding in a Subaru!
